For my creative textual piece, I decided to create a word map centered around the word “Humanities.” I tried not to overthink it and I usually wrote down the first thing that came to mind. I drew lines connecting bubbles that I felt had an especially strong connection. I think this word map emphasizes the total interrelatedness between the humanities and all other subjects. When initially trying to come up with a theme for my portfolio, the thought of music came into mind. However, I thought I would have trouble trying to connect music to the topics we learned about in class. I eventually realized that humanities can really be connected to almost anything. When someone first sees my website and listens to the recording, they might not believe that this is a humanities portfolio. If so, only after they spend some time exploring my website that they realize how strong the relationships are between different fields. Ultimately, the goal of my portfolio is to showcase my work in the context of the importance of relating topics to the humanities.
